Performance Dance
Performance dance is a by-audition only class for dancers ages 8 & up. It is a class aimed at the serious student who wants a pre-professional dance company experience. The class consists of a short warm-up followed by extensive work on compositional skills, choreography and production.
Performance students appear in a Studio A stage production, a fundraiser, and the year end recital.
Performance dance is a big commitment of time and energy for the whole family. Dancers attend weekly company class and are assigned rehearsal blocks. While dancers will not have rehearsal every week, they must be available during rehearsal block times. Please do not audition if you have made commitments for other rehearsal or are not able to attend rehearsals on Fridays and/or Sundays. Mandatory rehearsals will include Friday December 17 and all rehearsal dates before the show in January. If there are already family plans in place that cannot be changed, please do not audition.
Performance students sign up for Performance class (billed as a 1 1/2 classes) and are required to be enrolled in a jazz, contemporary, or hip hop technique class. The Production Fee for Performance is $100. This fee may be paid in monthly installments.
Auditions will be held Friday September 10 from 6:45 – 8:00 pm. Audition results will be posted online Sunday September 12. Class and rehearsal will begin with a Mandatory meeting on Friday September 17 from 6:30 – 7:00 pm. Company members and parents will meet for a short orientation. Parents will then be excused to talk in a parent group and dancers will have class and get measured from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. Rehearsals will continue to 8:45 for some of the dancers.
AUDITIONS
Friday September 10, 2010 6:45 – 8:00 pm
The audition class will consist of a short warm up and then a series of combinations from the show. The cast is chosen by an audition panel made up of company alumni and this year’s seniors. Dancers are chosen based on technique, musicality, ability to pick up combinations and performance style. Please arrive at the audition in plenty of time to fill out an audition form, get your number and warm up. Bring your calendar with a list of dates when you will not be able to rehearse.
